For me, ecstatic dance is a wonderful form of dance that goes far beyond just swaying your hips. Inspired by the 5 rhythms of Gabrielle Roth (an American who pioneered this style of dance in the 60s), it allows you to connect with your music and your soul in a profound way. At an ecstatic dance event, there are no set dance steps or rules. It is an absolute liberation where you take off your shoes, give up alcohol and drugs and simply surrender to the music. The music takes you through a wave of emotions and you follow the impulses of your body. It is an ecstatic state in which you can feel alive, free and completely yourself.

What I personally find particularly fascinating is the transition at the end of the dance session. The ecstatic wave of movement leads into a phase of deep stillness and inner peace. In this stillness, I often find a kind of spiritual connection and peace that is difficult to put into words. For me, ecstatic dance is not just dance, but a journey into my own soul. It helps me to de-stress, enhance my creativity and calm my mind. It's a place where I can discover and express myself without any restrictions. And at the end, I feel invigorated, inspired and deeply fulfilled.
